Ruyi - Melbourne, Victoria

Mushroom and crispy tofu skin parcels topped with caviar (3 pieces) 12

Peking duck cone - A traditional flavour served in a new way (2 pieces) 9

Handmade wonton in chilli sauce (6 pieces) 15

Scallops with golden rice 32

Wok fried mixed vegetables served in Nainai Fang’s homemade XO sauce 9

The good? Gorgeous space that is light, modern and understated but comfortable. Ruyi also boasts an impressive and ambituous ethos. Everything was cooked well.
The bad? It may have just come down to what we ordered, but some dishes were a little expensive, and while everything tasted fine, we couldn't really find any standouts or starring points to warrant the price. My dining partner and I both agreed that if dishes are to be "re-invented", then the overall quality and flavour should be equal to, or improve on, the existing dishes.
Would we go back? Maybe. There's nothing to really fault, so a good place for a business lunch perhaps, or if you're looking for something a little more comfortable than the typical Chinese restaurant.
