If you find yourself out near Box Hill there are plenty of options for Chinese and Asian cuisine.  We were recently taken out for my Father's birthday to a place recommended by one of his friends - "He's an alcoholic but he knows his food".  We were completely caught off-guard by this place.  Out of Box Hill central, in a little strip of shops along Middlesborough road, a Malaysian restaurant full of large, celebrating Malaysian families should have said something about the quality of food here.

Footscray is full of places that may not look the greatest but the food never fails.  It seems Box Hill is the same.  The place looks quite plain but I was amazed, not just at the food, but also at the presentation.

An extensive menu covering Malaysian and Chinese cuisine, we tried the son-in-law eggs and a hand made spring onion pancake ('Dad's specialty' - how could we not try it?) for entree and maybe too many mains but hardly anything went to waste.  The poached duck in orange spices was a real standout (from a Malaysian place in the burbs?) but the food was uniformly delicious.

The pork section on the menu was unfortunately left untouched by our party due to long over-held sanitation/religious beliefs but other people were ordering braised ham hocks (the skin was crisped with a blowtorch next to the table) and a tea smoked pork that I couldn't believe was coming out of the place we were in.  Everything on other people's tables smelled and looked amazing.

So we're now left trying to figure out who we know lives near Box Hill and what excuse can we make to see them.  Soon.
